Candace
You may never have met anyone so passionate about accounting. Candace has been building her expertise in the industry for the last 16 years, and she is driven by building connections with people through sharing her own experiences. Candace believes your relationship with your accountant should be like a friendship; rooted in open and honest communication. In 2015, she and her husband Justin launched SkinnyTax, and their goal was to treat clients like family and help them to achieve their goals through strategy, investment and implementation. Whether you need customized bookkeeping or help with your personal returns, Candace is an energetic and enthusiastic problem-solving machine who will still take the time to get to know you. Her many years of experience have allowed her to create a network of like-minded professionals that she can draw on as she works for her clients.
As her business grows within the community, she is revelling in the unique opportunity to get to know her neighbours on a deeper level; sharing their opinions and challenges, while getting to learn about their lives. Candace strives to support and help grow her community by connecting people and supporting other businesses. On the rare occasion when she does step away from work, she enjoys travelling, camping and gardening. She also has a passion for design, which you’ll clearly see when you visit the SkinnyTax office! The future is sure to bring changes and growth - both personally and professionally - as she & Justin welcomed their baby girl Wrenne in January 2021 and continue to grow their business.
Justin
Justin is the IT guy behind SkinnyTax and the other half of this dynamic duo. It takes complementary skills to build a business, and Justin oversees operations while handling everything tech related. He has experience building custom computers, networks, and security solutions, so when it comes to IT support, he does it all. This guy knows his stuff, and his skill and passion have helped him achieve his goal of launching his own family-based business. Justin lives and breathes tech, even his hobbies are tech related: he’ll gladly take a break to chat about the latest trends in cryptocurrencies. Justin and Candace proudly welcomed their daughter Wrenne in January 2021, and are excited about what the future holds for their family as well as their business.
Zoia
Efficiency driven, organized, and a genuine people person, Zoia is a triple threat! She’s a natural when it comes to creating connections with people, and that’s because it’s so obvious that she loves what she does. She’s got a big heart and a lot of love to share, just take her pup, JD, for instance! Not only is Zoia a superstar in the administrative space, she’s a proud dog mom and a volunteer at animal shelters! She’s not all soft, though... We hear that on the weekends she loves a tough hike! No wonder why she’s survived and thrived through over 6 years of administrative work! Zoia, we’re not just proud to have you on the team, we’re lucky!
Edward
Edward joined the team in August 2021. He has been in public practice accounting for over 15 years, and has a Business Administration Accounting Diploma from SAIT. He is currently seeking his Payroll Compliance Practitioner Certification to expand on his passion for accounting, specializing in GST and Investments.
In his spare time, Ed enjoys board gaming, online gaming, reading and singing. He is a member of the Edmonton Vocal Minority Music Society, which is a LGBTQ+ choir in Edmonton, Alberta. He also enjoys volunteering in local festivals such as Kaleido and Deep Freeze.
Mike Hohol
Accounting and Strategic Measurement Diploma from Grant Macewan.
Been in between public and industry accounting for 15 years and love the learning and teaching aspect of taxes, where I can help individuals understand the whats and whys of their situation.
When not doing accounting, I’m helping out on the family farm and hanging out with friends and family between board game nights.
